The SPC is an advisory committee that consults with the school community regarding developing, monitoring and reviewing our School Growth Plan. The purpose of the School Growth Plan is to improve student achievement and success (Section 8.3 of the School Act). The SPC will also advise the school board in three other important areas: allocation of resources, the school board's accountability contract, and the school's educational services and programs.
As per the Draft School Board Policy #10002, the SPC holds a minimum of 3 meetings in the school year.
It is our responsibility to support our child's education. The Province of B.C. is offering us an opportunity to positively influence our children's learning environment through the School Planning Council. The government recognizes the need for us to be actively involved in our children's education. Participation in the SPC gives parents the following:
A vehicle for our ideas and validation of the importance of our role, an opportunity to improve parent/teacher partnerships and an opportunity to increase parent collaboration.
